This New Year Brings More Opportunities to Make More Smiles

A few days ago as the clock struck midnight, we closed the door on 2021 and turned the page to a whole new chapter as we rang in 2022. We all are aware of the fact that the new year is so deeply rooted in tradition that it is the one holiday to which our entire calendar year revolves around. In many ways, it’s metaphorically and literally the brandishing of a clean slate. An opportunity to start afresh—which after these past couple of years is something that we all, collectively, need. More importantly though, the start of the new year is laden with symbolism of hope and good tidings where anything can happen.

At SMILE Mass, we have many exciting things in store for this new year! I want you all to take a minute to envision a place where you could come to, where no aspects of your past or shortcomings mattered, and where people only saw the best of you. That sounds like a pretty magical place, doesn’t it? Those of us who read a lot of futuristic fiction, would call that type of place a “utopia”–a place too good to even exist. That is what SMILE Mass plans to establish with the “Community within a Community-Club SMILE Mass” program.

And in 2022, we plan to see aspects of it come to fruition; including, the expansion of its members and the process of buying land where the center will be held. Furthermore, with the assistance of generous donors and grants it is not just going to be feasible, but a reality.

I would be remiss if I didn’t comment on all of the challenges that these past couple of years have brought into all of our lives, because I think it’s safe to say that there hasn’t been a shortage. And for many of us they have brought a lot of hardship and struggle, but there is beauty to be found amidst the utter darkness. Because we take the lessons that we learn in those moments with us and imbue us with their strength. And we can take the lessons that we learned to make 2022 the best year yet.
