It is a little over a week until Christmas, and the countdown has officially begun as we all anticipate Santa’s arrival! All nine of my Christmas trees are up in all of their winter wonderland glory and it is officially the season for cozying up on the couch with loved ones, while sipping hot cocoa and watching holiday movies. Historically, the holiday season is one full of a lot of bustle and visiting with family members near and far, with very few moments of quietness and relaxation. However, during the past two years, we have all gotten a taste of what a quieter, albeit more relaxing, holiday season looks like and while the holidays are meant to be a joyous time chock full of festivities, they are a time of a hardship for many–especially, for families with disabled children or family members.

Lotte Diomede, the president and one of SMILE Mass’ founders, explains how her Danish heritage has instilled in her the importance of rooting for the underdog. The necessity of instilling confidence in and building up those who already have the odds stacked against them just by getting out of bed every morning. And donating towards the expansion of “Community within a Community – Club SMILE Mass,” is the equivalent of rooting for the underdog, because your donation directly goes towards the creation of exactly what the name implies–a community.

The community isn’t just a place for individuals with disabilities and those closest to them to come to for support, but also for those individuals to prosper in a positive environment. It essentially is centered around the mission of helping people be their very best selves, which is something that we all should try to do on a daily basis. And isn’t that what the basis of the Christmas spirit is all about, to spread goodness and positivity in the world?

Speaking from my own personal viewpoint, I have grown tremendously both as a writer and a person in the five months that I have been a part of SMILE Mass. I can see how my writing has grown under this team’s guidance. I was lucky in the fact that I have possessed an innate and strong desire to succeed, but not everyone has that. And seldom people who have a disability, actually receive that push from others. SMILE Mass gives people that opportunity to succeed as well as reach their fullest potential so that they can have bright futures, where they can achieve anything they would put their minds to.

During our 12 Days of Smiles campaign thus far, we have not yet reached our goal and we need your help so we can continue to service our clients this coming year. So, as you’re basking in the glow of the Christmas lights with your family members by your side, please keep in mind those who have not had the blessings you’ve had, and if you can please donate to help make someone else’s Christmas dream a reality.
